Just an interesting note – you can’t get the latest iphoto 9.4 untless you are on the latest Lion release – 10.7.5 ! You don’t get served up a software update from 9.3 on LION unless you are on that the newest point release! It says that on the show notes but I had to go and check with your handy link since I was wondering why software update on 10.7.4 lion didn’t serve up the new iPHOTO release!

    Love the links…

    • Funny you should say that Lisa, because when it wasn’t served up on my Lion-running Mac Pro, I immediately wondered if Apple dropped support for Lion! :)

That wasn’t the case, of course. I wonder if it doesn’t have something to do with the new Gatekeeper feature of 10.7.5? Otherwise, I don’t see anything in the advertised new feature-set that would indicate why it couldn’t run on 10.7.4.

  2. Hi Mike. Great show as always! :D

But I couldn’t disagree more about Tim Cook exaggerating on the apologies. I think he is just doing what Steve Jobs’ reality distortion field couldn’t allow him to do, which is being more honest and realistic. In fact I think he didn’t apologised enough! I think he should be apologising for the “save as” confusion, for dropping support to RSS altogether, for replacing Spaces with useless (and terribly named) Mission Control, and for many other small (irreversible) changes they made just for the sake of change. I think Maps for iOS 6 was a huge step back. You said you enjoy using Google Maps and that you think the experience wasn’t the same on the iOS. Now imagine that limited experience getting even worse, more limited and imprecise. And let’s not forget replacing functions with others that are, not only different, but not available for people who had it before, like replacing Street View for Flyover and limiting it to iPhones 4S and 5. Its another example of picking a perfectly fine app/function and ruining because the new way is “the way it’s best for us, the way it should have been in the first place”. Because Apple knows this stuff! They see the future, they read our minds. Maybe it is the best way, but maybe I don’t like it and prefer it the old way, which my be the reason I bought the phone in the first place. Maps was one of the main reasons I bought my iPhone after moving to the UK in 2009. This new Map looks cheap, like a tourist paper map they give you at the tube station. Maybe the Flyover function compensate for the lack of detail on the Standard view mode. But I cant use it because, for the sake of user experience, Im not suppose to have it on my ancient iPhone 4… And what’s worse, even if I try to buy an iPhone 5 on a plan T-mobile wont let me do it because they wont approve my credit check, WTH!? Lol! Come on T-Mobile, I have 3 credit cards way under their limits! Hahahahah. Anyway, Im not upgrading on a full price, I would rather wait for iPhone 5S with the rumoured finger print recognition locking system that I was expecting to see on this one.

    Cheers!
